14th Nov 2006, 03:49 GMT
Deutsche Telekom said its supervisory board has appointed Rene Obermann, head of the T-Mobile division, as the telecom group's new chief executive effective Monday, confirming information obtained earlier from sources. Obermann will succeed Kai-Uwe Ricke, who resigned Sunday night amid growing pressure over his failure to halt the loss of customers at the group's ailing fixed-line business.
