Single moms move in to college dorms

Running through a nearby college campus with my son in the jogger, I remembered the heart-squeezing anticipation of the new school year, and thought how far from that I am now, a mom with babies. But what if both the freshman jitters and the new-mom adjustments were combined? That’s the reality at Endicott College, where a single parent program innovates by providing dorm housing and special accomodations for students with babies. Says one incoming freshman, “I don’t plan on having the typical college experience.” D’ya think? Endicott’s program, which provides free child care, organizes play groups, and pays a large part of the annual tuition, room and board is one of only a few across the country. This means that girls who get pregnant in high school often have a tough road in front of them, a road in which college is the first thing to go. A program like this means several women have a much better chance at providing a stable lifestyle for their kids, off the government ”dole” - which is worth every penny, IMHO.
