Chiron board: Novartis offer 'inadequate'

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Drugmaker Chiron Corp. on Monday issued a statement from its independent board of directors saying an offer from Swiss group Novartis AG to acquire the 58 percent of Chiron that Novartis does not already own for $40 a share in cash is "inadequate."
