Nigeria [editorial]: The East African Quake
13th Dec 2005, 16:31 GMT
The earthquake that hit the Lake Tanganyika region of East Africa early last week is a tragic reminder that no place on this planet is totally immune to catastrophic earth movements. Its location and magnitude (6.8 on the Richter Scale) should dispel the illusion that Africa, the world's oldest continent, has bid farewell to anything to do with earthquakes. With the East African quake a rethink of old assumptions is called for.
