New develpoments in prostate cancer

12th Dec 2005, 20:29 GMT

Filed under: Prostate Cancer Fifty years ago it was rare for a man in his 40's to be daignosed with prostate cancer, today that trend is changing as the number of younger men diagnosed with the disease is growing. The reasons for this change are not clear, environmental factors, a change in diet or number of sexual partners are thought to have an impact on the number of new cases. Whatever the reasons, laparoscopic surgery has given a boost to many men who find themselves facing this cancer. Laparoscopic surgery is beneficial in that it is easier on the body, it can be performed in just a few hours and it causes less bleeding. The surgery, if performed early enough, has a greater chance of eliminating the tumor than a traditional operation. The kinder procedure enables men to be back on the job within just a few weeks. And with this procedure, fewer men experience incontinence or impotence. All of these points would be a welcome to any man, but for a man in his late 30's this news might make a world of difference.
