Nigeria [analysis]: Pronaco: Fading Hopes of a Sovereign National Conference
5th Oct 2005, 19:27 GMT
Last Saturday the Pro-National Conference Organization (PRONACO) inaugurated its own version of a national conference after many years of the agitation for the convocation of a Sovereign National Conference (SNC). Coming three months after the abrupt end of the one convened by the presidency, many Nigerians especially those of the progressive circle, would have expected the take-off of the PRONACO confab to satisfy the yearnings and aspirations of a truly people-centred conference that would produce an autonomous and autochtonous constitution for the country. But that was not to be.
