Merck says new drug is safer than Vioxx

Number 4 US drugmaker, Merck announced that its arthritis painkiller Arcoxia did not increase the risk of heart attacks, but showed mixed results in preventing gastro-intestinal bleeding, a key factor in differentiating the drug from competitors.
