READING: Head to the New School to join the New York Times and their moderator, critic William Grimes, as Carl Hiaasen reads from his latest crime caper, Nature Girl, which chronicles the exploits of volatile Honey Santana who meets a wild cast of characters while en route to the Ten Thousand Islands. Show up early for a good seat - Hiaasen is a popular draw. - Krissa Corbett Cavouras 6:30pm // The New School [Tishman Auditorium, 66 West 12th St] // $25 MUSIC: The Avalon is back open for now, and tonight they give you a Rock Off, featuring: The Picture, Locksley, Hepburn, The GoStation and Day Glow. That's a lotta rock at a low price! The show is free, and you can even win a guitar signed by Jack Black and tickets to the D's show at MSG. 6pm // Avalon [5th Ave at 20th St] // Free TALK: (Originally thought to be last week, this is actually happening tonight) Director of "Requiem for a Dream" and "Pi", Darren Aronfsky, is at the Apple Store tonight to talk about his new movie, "The Fountain". The new film is about one man's thousand-year journey to save the woman he loves while exploring our fragile existence in the world. Doesn't sound depressing at all. 7pm // Apple Store SoHo [103 Prince St] // Free ROCK READING: Marc Woodworth will be reading from his book on the Guided by Voices album Bee Thousand tonight, it's part of the 33 1/3 series. He'll be presenting a multi-media "extravaganza" including randomly chosen interviews on cassette and more. Much more! Plus Ben Sisario, author of this article AND the 33 1/3 book on The Pixies' Doolittle, will be there reading from his book as well. What better way to kick off your night of Robert Pollard goodness. 7pm // Cake Shop [152 Ludlow St] // Free THEATER: A “high octane, rock and roll” reinvention of Woyzeck premieres tonight at St. Ann’s Warehouse, following a 2004 sold-out run in London. This "rock and roll adaptation" of Buchner’s unfinished play tells the tragic tale of a low-ranking soldier who submits to military medical experiments to earn a little extra money for his mistress and child. When he’s dumped for a drum-major, psychotic sparks fly. The Sunday Times reviewer called it “by far the best and most daring account of [Woyzeck] I have ever seen.” - John Del Signore 8pm // St. Ann’s Warehouse, 38 Water Street, Brooklyn // Tickets cost $35
