USATODAY.com - The Senate Judiciary Committe on Monday opens hearings on John Roberts' nomination to succeed William Rehnquist as chief justice of the Supreme Court. The hearings will be the first of two contentious debates, as the committee must also consider a replacement for retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.
