Mom with breast cancer gives her life for baby
10th Dec 2005, 03:21 GMT
Here’s a heartfelt and heartbreaking story out of Britain. 37-year-old Bernadette Mimura was diagnosed with breast cancer one month into her pregnancy with little Nathan Taylor. Doctors tried to get her to take medications that would have cured her - and killed her child. Mimura refused. She gave birth to Nathan two months premature, after her calcium levels rose and doctors induced her. She died weeks later, living long enough to see her son baptised. Her son is perfectly healthy. Did Mimura do the right thing here? She had three other children; was her responsibility to her unborn child - at the time barely developed - more hefty than her obligation to her other kids? I can’t see myself making that call for another living human being, or criticizing them once they’ve made their choice. All I can do is cry for the loss. May the Goddess smile on Bernadette Mimura, wherever she is. Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments © 2005 Weblogs, Inc.
