Making a blog transition

You may notice some changes around here -- and hopefully some improvements -- starting today. The P-I is shifting its weblogs to an internally developed system (see Brian Chin's post for background) and it's my turn to make the move. A few notes on the change: The Web address stays the same, as does the RSS feed, so there's no need to worry about changing your bookmarks. The typeface is slightly larger, for easier reading. The biggest change will be in commenting, which will now require free registration with SeattlePI.com. If you're already registered to search the back archives or use other advanced site features, you can use the same login. This is, in part, an effort to fight comment spam. The new commenting system also should eliminate those annoying timeouts that were a common problem for people trying to post under the old system. Posts and comments made under the old system remain accessible via their permalinks and by browsing the older archives at right. I've also duplicated the posts from the past couple weeks in the new system, although the duplicates don't contain previous comments. The biggest improvement is the ability to search past entries by keyword via the new search box at right. I'm also starting to apply category labels to posts, to make it easier for you (and me, to be frank) to find archived entries by subject matter. That's it. Feel free to contact me with any comments.
