Liberia: Riots Erupt as Weah Claims Presidency
12th Dec 2005, 22:53 GMT
Far before the just-ended presidential and legislative elections, the unanimous chorus was that the process would set the stage for a new democratic dispensation in Liberia to end nearly two decades of violence and savagery. But less than a month after the process, which produced the first woman president in Liberia and Africa, the stage is suppurated with the transitional government issuing security alert that saboteurs and evil men are planning to cause chaos and destabilize the country again. Coincidentally, the government's warning tailed a declaration by CDC's standard bearer, George Manneh Weah's that he is the winner of the November 8 run-off and that is the legitimate president of Liberia.
