Health trend slows in U.S.

Filed under: Prevention In the 1990's the overall health of Americans improved by about 1.5 percent annually. However, since 2000 that increase has slowed to 0.3 percent. The decrease in that rate is alarming considering that the United States lags behind most nations in a variety of indicators, and ranks 28th in healthy life expectancy. And although baby boomers are experiencing an all time high of life expectancy, their end years are likely to be riddled with health issues and obesity. "This is concerning to all of us the health-care community and should be of equal concern to all Americans," said Dr. Georges Benjamin, executive director of the American Public Health Association.
