Rested, but Battered Jets Face Chargers

You know its been a tough season when Jets fans look back so fondly to last season's cardiac-inducing AFC Divisional playoff victory over the San Diego Chargers. Remember linebacker Eric Barton's penalty, which could have been the costliest in franchise history? Anyhow, with things looking down but not yet out for the Jets (2-5), a date with a San Diego (4-4) team that looks like last year was no fluke does not seem like an ideal situation, even after a bye week. Mostly, the challenge for the Jets will be figuring a way to stop the AFC's most productive offense and arguably the NFL's best running back, Ladanian Tomlinson. "Did you know?" : Tomlinson has three touchdown passes this season? You did? Well, so do the New York Jets. In fact, L.T. has scored 11 TDs (10 rushing) to the Jets' 10. So, he's played one more game than the Jets, but you get the picture. And Jets fans might even get a look at a man who could be their next quarterback of the future - Philip Rivers. The Chargers' top draft choice in 2004 has only played in one pro game because of the resurgence of starter Drew Brees. The team recently traded for capable backup A.J. Feeley, hinting that they may be ready to make a move with either Rivers or possibly Brees - who Newsday said the Jets would also be interested in. Injuries aside, the honeymoon between the Jets and Chad Pennington seems to be over and Rivers may become part of a major trade - or the team sours on Drew Brees. Several teams will be gunning for whichever player the Chargers don't keep. But one thing's for sure...they both will be rich. Prediction: Chargers 21-10. Photo by AFP/Getty Images/ Harry How
