What's in a name, a title or otherwise known as Miss Debbie

My wife belongs to a moms’ group that meets a few times each month. One of the moms decided that she’d really like to have her child call the other moms by a name that shows more respect than their first name, so that it has some distinction from what the kids will call each other. But she doesn’t want to be a Mrs. Somebody. When we were kids, that is what we called our friends’ parents (or sometime’s it was “David’s Mom”). But this mom came up with the idea of Miss Firstname. So my wife would be Miss Debbie. OK, sounds a bit silly to me. That is what daycare teachers are called, and also dance teachers, my wife says. So it is not out of the ordinary. Meanwhile, we have all gotten friendly and the group meets on the weekends with the dads, too. All I know is that I don’t want to be Mr. Keith. That evokes images of an accident-prone claymation character, an aberrant kids’ program host or just something else beyond creepy. Besides, Keith is a last name too! So I consulted Baby Center to see what other parents say about this issue. Advice is all over the place, but the idea I liked the best is to simply ask each adult what they would like to be called, then teach your child to call them that.
