Three new patents filed by Google focus on the company's hope to fuel free Wi-Fi business models via advertisements, notes ZDNetUK. One of the patents, application number 20060058019, explores dynamically modifying the appearance of the browser used to access a hotspot, depending on the brand of the hotspot provider. Google teamed up with Earthlink to bid on the San Fran muni-fi project, have invested in Fon, and is offering free Wi-Fi near its new headquarters in Mountain View, California. As recently explored, MetroFi recently decided to go from $20 a month Wi-Fi, to free ad-driven Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi Networking News chief Glenn Fleishman dissected the numbers behind that decision.
