Dowling claims third in Ankeny

Johnston High School golf coach Steve Smith said he believes his team has made significant strides this season by finishing second in the Ankeny Invitational on Thursday at Otter Creek Golf Course. "We were much better," Smith said after his team shot a 291. "The kids worked really hard. They have been playing golf since they could get on a golf course in the spring. Im about ready to tell some of them to go home." Ames won the meet with a score of 287. Dowling Catholic was third at 294; Valley was fifth at 296, Ankeny sixth at 297; Urbandale seventh with 298; and Waukee was 10th with 317.
