BPU Banca to Buy Banca Lombarda

MILAN, Italy (AP) - Banche Popolari Unite SCARL is buying Banca Lombarda e Piemontese SpA in a 6.2 billion euro ($7.9 billion) stock deal to create Italy's sixth-largest bank by assets, accelerating the consolidation of the nation's fragmented banking sector.
