Here's what should have made news

I would make a lousy newspaper editor. The big stories so rarely seem that way to me. I would put actual big issues -- such as new art shows, new artistic works and new art controversies -- on the front page every day and relegate the really trivial and dull stuff -- such as Canadian politics, and their attendant expert analysis of tax theories -- to page 16, where you could also read the horoscopes and the cartoons. Pages 2 and 3 would be all about the Internet. The movie box-office results would be banished to the business section, as would all discussions of celebrities and what they are wearing/selling. For the main news, the front-page stuff, I would encourage and even commission the writing of artistic manifestos.
