As days get shorter, more candles will be lit to brighten dim corners and celebrate holidays. But not all candles burn alike. Most candles are made with paraffin, a by-product of crude oil and burning them releases the same chemicals as burning other petroleum products. And if scented candles are made with artificial fragrances, they may release toxic chemicals when burned.
