CD sextant

Woohoo! Columbus Day! A… uh… bank holiday. Darn. Well, anyway, here is a hack to keep you from getting lost at sea. A sextant is used to measure the elevation of celestial bodies above the horizon. If you want to get into celestial navigation a sextant might seem like a big expense. You could start by building this super cheap sextant. It requires a CD and case, a couple small mirrors and some LEGO bricks. The LEGO were used because they are dimensionally precise. The site includes a calibrated scale to be applied to the CD.
