Canada's newest media mogul is as eccentric and shrewd as many of his peers and predecessors. Sam Grippo, an accountant by training, is the behind-the-scenes deal maker in Glacier Ventures, a Vancouver-based company that is hitting the national radar for its recent $180-million purchase of almost the last of Hollinger International's media empire in Canada, including Conrad Black's first newspaper, the Sherbrooke Record.
