Federated to begin job cuts March 1

Federated Department Stores Inc. said Tuesday it would begin phasing out operations at May Department Stores Co.'s corporate headquarters and May Merchandising Corp. on March 1, affecting 1,200 employees at Foley's Houston corporate office.
