According to the S.F. Chronicle (which has endorsed Prop. 74): Unions, led by the nurses and teachers, have been Schwarzenegger’s most vocal opponents during the special election campaign, raising more than $100 million in their effort to defeat his four measures. Director and actor Rob Reiner showed up at the Alameda County Central Labor Council, where phone banks were jammed with dozens of volunteers making an estimated 26,400 get-out-the-vote phone calls to local voters. “People have to understand that there’s a lot at stake here,'’ said Reiner, a Democrat, as he prepared to make calls to voters in Northern California. Art Pulaski, executive secretary-treasurer of the California Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, said that in walking door to door, he had seen an outpouring of support for unions in their effort against Schwarzenegger. “He’s been a bully, and he needs to get a message from us,'’ Pulaski said.
