"The madrassa curriculum is being standardised by the countrys Department of Education." Now that's interesting. Will they make sure that no material pertaining to political Islam appears? From GulfNews, with thanks to Sr. Soph: The House of Representatives in the Philippines has allocated 100 million pesos (Dh6.6 million) for teaching materials for madrassas, or Muslim religious schools, in Metro Manila and southern Philippines, a lawmaker said. The money will be used for the production and distribution of textbooks and other instructional material for the madrassas, said Congressman Rolando Andaya. He said that part of the fund would be used for training madrassa teachers in English and Arabic and on Islam. We want the young Filipino Muslims to be taught about the countrys history, about heroes such as Andres Bonifacio, Jose Rizal and Sultan Kudarat, but not Osama Bin Laden, said Congressman Andaya. He added that more money will be spent to stop the growth of Muslim extremism in the southern Philippines. The madrassa curriculum is being standardised by the countrys Department of Education, said Andaya.
