Nigeria: Madam Governor by Default

Not so very long ago, be-fore they got so madly preoccupied by HIV/AIDS, women NGOs complained bitterly of how only one deputy governor (Senator Bucknor Akerele of Lagos) emerged in the 1999 elections. There was no single female governor, in spite of there not having been a shortage of qualified women who were willing and ready to run.
