Cingular Plans to Launch iTunes-like Service Soon
23rd Sep 2005, 07:39 GMT
During an investor presentation at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference in New York City today, the COO of Cingular Wireless, Ralph de la Vega, said the company plans to sell a “walkie-talkie’ style phone and launch a service next year that will let users download music on their mobile phone. He added the service would probably be a little more expensive that what people pay to download songs from the iTunes service. I wonder why he got into discussing pricing so soon after announcing the service. You would think that offering an alternative to iTunes might be enough to spark a lot of interest, but saying that your service is going to cost more right at the outset might turn some people off right at the outset.
