Global warming, dummies

Filed under: Gripes, Television, Op-ed, Streaming Video Regardless of my own views on global warming, which I try to inform by keeping up on the science behind it and not the endless political bickering, I don't care much for this commercial. When an organization tries to make their point by insinuating that any stance other than their own will result in utter catastrophe, and drive their point home with condescending overtones (the Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood theme in this case), I lose interest. The anti-smoking campaigns for The Truth suffer from this same arrogance. My point has nothing to do with the ad's stance, if the WWF of Canada wants to make commercials warning about the effects of global warming, that's fine, but don't be "cute" about it and talk down to the viewer. People are smart, so give them a little more credit rather than approaching them as if you're a kindergarten teacher with puppets on your hands. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
