O' Neal injures right shoulder
13th Nov 2006, 09:04 GMT
Bengals cornerback Deltha O'Neal hurt his right shoulder and slammed his head while trying to stop a San Diego touchdown in the third quarter Sunday, and left the game temporarily for tests before returning in the final period. Cincinnati's top cornerback let Malcom Floyd get behind him for a 46-yard touchdown catch. O'Neal caught up and dived at his legs, trying to make the tackle, but landed hard on his shoulder. His head hit the back of Floyd's knee. O'Neal stayed on the ground for several minutes. He left the game for evaluation, forcing first-round draft pick Johnathan Joseph - an extra cornerback in passing situations - to take on a bigger role. O'Neal returned in the fourth quarter, after San Diego had overcome a 21-point deficit to take the lead.
