Former Saint Joseph's Coach Boyle Dies At 63

Former Saint Joseph's basketball coach Jim Boyle died of lung cancer at his suburban home Friday. He was 63. His death was announced by the school. Boyle coached Saint Joe's from 1981-90, leading the Hawks to two NCAA tournament appearances and a 151-114 record. He played for the Hawks under Hall of Fame coach Jack Ramsay and was an assistant under three other coaches. He hired current coach Phil Martelli as an assistant. "Jim Boyle gave me an opportunity to enter college basketball in 1985 and I will be forever grateful," Martelli said.
