Filed under: Farming, Business, Organic, Newspapers Sarah Gilbert recently posted on McDonald’s announcement that it will soon offer organic, fair-trade coffee at some of its locations in the U.S. Today’s New York Times features a business article about how food giants like McDonald’s and Kraft are taking a greater interest in the organic food market. Many fear that the sway of such companies will weaken the still unstable definition of what can be deemed organic. Lobbying is already underway to allow certain artificial ingredients to meet organic standards. While some feel that such allowances would encourage the growth of organic food, many feel that it would only serve to degrade the quality and purity of many products labeled organic.
