YouTube - Google Video set to compete with Orb for mobile video streaming
16th Nov 2006, 18:51 GMT
I think Smartmobs of engaged users need to see their online videos - the ones they love to view on their desktops and laptops on their mobile phones - and YouTube is working on that right now - for everything they publish online. But.... Orb is going to get there first - and will be agnostic - will take any one's MP4's and stream them on your mobile device way before YouTube gets to do it, according to Wireless Report. Orb will allow the streaming of videos from YouTube, Google Video and other Internet video sites directly to your mobile phone. Sweet. Orb's MyCasting Mobile will automatically transcode videos on-the-fly when requested, including changing the bitrate, screen resolution and other details to fit the particular mobile phone making the video stream request. This will pump up the mileage YouTube will have to beat when it launches its mobile service reportedly next year. Strike an early victory for Orb. For now. Links: Wireless Week , Wireless Report
