More WiMax trials

BT have hooked up with US company, Navini to trial its mobile broadband Internet access technology in the UK, according to Reuters. WiMax (IEEE 802.16) offers the potential of citywide high speed broadband access is used in come counties for "last mile broadband" - ie getting high speed Internet to those end-users beyond the reach of DSL technologies, as well as for mobile users. Nokia, the worlds largest mobile phone manufacturer, earlier this year announced that its backing plans to make WiMax a standard for Internet access for mobile phone users. The BT/Navini pilot, taking place in both rural and city locations, is expected to run until mid 2006.
