No QB change for Lions

14th Nov 2006, 13:14 GMT

The Lions had to deal with questions about a possible switch at quarterback after they dropped to 2-7 following their 19-13 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. WR Roy Williams was asked if Detroit's struggling offense might have been sparked by a change at quarterback, switching starter Jon Kitna for backup Josh McCown. Kitna completed 19 of 30 passes for 202 yards, but was sacked three times and threw one touchdown and one interception. Williams refused to buy into the suggestion that Kitna's throwing was inconsistent. "Where's the inconsistency? They (49ers defense) ran exactly what we knew they were going to run," said Williams, who caught five passes for 81 yards. "There was nothing that Kitna did that would put him on the bench." Lions head coach Rod Marinelli also dismissed the possibility of a quarterback change. "I believe in him 100 percent. What he brings to the table, I've seen him have some games where he's started slow and he finishes really strong," Marinelli said. "He's got that great mental toughness to him. And he's got the leadership I'm looking for. That would be why."
