President fights to secure his position

President Emile Lahoud has expended considerable effort through his allies in Parliament and the Cabinet, many of whom have publicly defended the president amid calls for his resignation after the arrest of four of his top security officials - most notably Presidential Guards Brigade Commander Mustafa Hamdan - in the Hariri investigation.
