Study shows rituximab effective in treating chronic graft-versus-host disease

A study by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute researchers offers the strongest evidence yet of the effectiveness of a novel therapy for chronic graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), a potentially life-threatening complication of donor bone marrow and stem cell transplants. Researchers found that rituximab reduced the severity of chronic GVHD in 70 percent of the study participants who completed at least one course of treatment, including two who experienced complete remissions of symptoms.
