Eritrea: Challenges in Safeguarding Media Autonomy
13th Nov 2006, 16:21 GMT
On top of the economic imbalance and benefit imbalance, this century has also become a time of unequal access to and consumption of information and the mass media. As has been witnessed in the world economy that is being manipulated to the benefit of a few powers behind the screen of free trade policy, it has also been the case as regards the media and information world to monopolize information through privatization, as well as ensuring superiority and promoting one's own objectives and agendas under the ploy of free press. Having being owned by giant western companies and institutions, the main sources of information or media outlets in today's world are serving the interests of their proprietors. Besides, it has become an indisputable fact that those media firms established in the name of other countries under the license of big powers have been parroting voices of the major western media outlets.
