Herceptin proving to be a wonder drug

Filed under: Breast Cancer, Drug Herceptin, the exciting new breast cancer drug, is proving to be more effective than previously thought. Finnish doctors are saying that nine weeks of the drug, compared to the usual one year, will prove effective in fighting breast cancer. The shorter span also diminishes the risk of cardiac complications previously associated with the drug. "The jury is in and the jury has a very strong verdict - that virtually all women whose tumors are the type targeted by Herceptin should get the drug", Dr. Robert Carlson, a Stanford University breast cancer expert . Herceptin carries a high price tag making it unattainable for many women. However, if it is needed for only nine weeks it may be more affordable.
