In The Market: Pink French Garlic
5th Oct 2005, 15:41 GMT
Gothamist thought all garlic was created equal until we recently stumbled upon a few varieties of pink French garlic, which is grown primarily in the South of France. What's the difference between the pink French variety and our good old white garlic from the U.S.? Other than its obvious pink color, it is less pungent, a bit sweeter and lasts a lot longer in storage than the white variety. Gothamist tried the pink garlic in a few different ways - in a garlic soup and satueed with a few other ingredients with pasta. It was very nice, but not sure it was worth the $5 for a bag of 6 heads. Have any of you tried pink French garlic? Pink Garlic from Auvergne is currently selling for $4.99 for an 11 oz bag at Fairway.
