Gates on 'Dr. Who'? Think again
4th Apr 2006, 07:11 GMT
I was intrigued by this CNet News.com post, published today, about Bill Gates agreeing to make a guest appearance on the popular BBC sci-fi show "Doctor Who." So I spent a little time trying to confirm it for myself, searching for an official announcement and asking a contact at Microsoft for information. No luck. Then I found the original story, on Silicon.com, and noticed the publication date: April 1. Looking more closely, the other big tip-off is the non-existent date on which the program would air: Nov. 31. As of Monday night, CNet still treats it like a legitimate news story, with its April 3 publication date eliminating the biggest clue about what's really going on. Several bloggers have linked to the post under the apparent impression that it's real. But at least one CNet reader has noticed -- and pointed out -- what happened.
