"Moskovskii komsomolets" reported on 1 November that several dozen swans are "literally freezing to death" from hunger and exposure to cold temperatures in iced-over ponds in the Russian capital. Animal-control officials are reportedly afraid to rescue them because of the "high probability" that they could be carriers of bird flu.
