Samsung Swings Both Ways

If you can't beat em, join em. I guess that's what Samsung concluded after watching Blu-Ray and HD-DVD camps snark at each other all summer and absolutely refuse to give the consumer any idea what the next generation of DVD is going to be. So, to be fair to everyone, the company has announced plans to build a DVD player that supports both standards. Samsung happens to have both feet planted firmly in the Blu-Ray camp, but have decided that this player could give it an "an advantage in the multibillion-dollar market for DVD players, PC drivers and optical disks." The product should be on shelves sometime in 2006. Samsung to launch dual-standard DVD player [Reuters]
