TN politico switches party to run for Congress?

13th Nov 2006, 16:54 GMT

If Congressman Davis gives up his 4th District seat to run for Governor, who will the Democrats find to replace him? Hmnmmmm!!!! A State Senator who had abandoned the Republicans and moved to the Democrats might be able to pull enough long-time supporters from his old party and add to the Democrat vote and hold the seat. Williams is a skilled and seasoned campaigner. The Democrat leadership in Nashville and Washington will be pouring money into the 4th District like it was Europe under the Marshall Plan and Williams would be included in the credit along with Davis. More from Mark Rogers. UPDATE: Blogger and constituent David Oatney is not happy: I can promise him that he will lose my vote. Mike Williams' constituents did not elect an independent, they knowingly elected a Republican. Upper East Tennessee is a part of our State that you might call "reflexive Republican," people will go into the voting booth and push the button for the candidate with the "R" next to his or her name because they are a Republican and that person's family may have been voting Republican for decades, even generations. UPDATE II: From Tennessee Talk: I absolutely cannot believe that we are going through this all over again. I cannot believe that Senator Mike Williams would consider voting for an 85-year old man who is the poster child for the status quo over Ron Ramsey, a member of Williams’ own party.
