Beattie says Bundaberg inquiry restarted based on public outrage

Queensland Premier Peter Beattie says his decision to restart the Bundaberg hospital inquiry was based on public outrage. Last week, the State Government ruled out reviving the commission, which was shut down by the Supreme Court because of bias. But Mr Beattie appointed former judge Geoff Davies yesterday to pick up where disqualified commissioner Tony Morris left off. The new terms of reference will be "broader" than the first inquiry and the new commissioner will not be limited to official misconduct issues.
