vbs query

Hi all, can anyone think of a better solution to this... As part of a troubleshooting script (written in VB Script), I am trying to establish if a remote client is listening on a particular port (the port doesn’t return anything, just connects). At the moment I'm using telnet to connect to the remote client which seems quite painful. Then parsing a netstat output for a established connection to the remote client. I know perl, pyton etc., would be easier but I'd quite like to stick with VB Script as the rest of the script is complete. I'm also trying to do it without using any third party stuff such as w3Sockets from http://tech.dimac.net/ Any elegant solutions that don't require telnet? Many thanks
