Budget money slated to tackle obesity.
7th Jan 2006, 08:56 GMT
Health Minister Pete Hodgson says there will be new money in the next Budget to tackle the country's worsening problem of obesity in children. Hodgson is ruling out a tax based on the fat content of foods but says money will go into various projects which may include supermarket tours to better educate people about the foods they are buying. Hodgson says he is concerned that surveys are showing a third of New Zealand children between the ages of five and 14 are either overweight or obese. Hodgson wants more schools involved in the free fruit programme, better nutrition education and research into how to help parents identify obesity in their children. Source:RNZ
