'Improved' Thomas Leads No. 8 UConn

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Mel Thomas was the Big East's most improved player last year. This season, she may be taking her game to another level. The junior guard scored 23 points, including five 3-pointers, to help No. 8 Connecticut win its 11th consecutive season opener Monday night, 84-50 over Richmond.
