Robotic ring helps fight fire
15th Nov 2006, 10:32 GMT
Computer scientists have successfully developed a new software that monitors wireless sensor networks, and one of the more practical purposes would be using it to help robots navigate through simulated fires. These software agents are capable of self-cloning, creating a ring of software around the fire. Pretty neat idea - now we only need to create fire-resistant robots that will not melt in the midst of a raging fire. It also does not address the question of collapsing debris which could knock more than one robot out of commission. To their credit, it will definitely help any fireman assess the situation in order to make a more informed decision. I don't know about you, but the picture on the right looks more complicated than the final play at Super Bowl.
