Katrina's Impact on Sports World Far-Reaching
8th Sep 2005, 07:08 GMT
For Oregon State freshman linebacker Dennis Christopher, relief came in the form of a text message. Christopher, who is from New Orleans, got word via cell phone messaging last week that his mother, Prisca Christopher, and his sister, Rashima, had survived Hurricane Katrina and were unharmed. Prisca Christopher is a deputy sheriff in New Orleans, and was staying in the city to help with the relief efforts. The family was staying in the city courthouse. Keenan Lewis, a redshirt freshman cornerback for the Beavers, said his family was able to escape to Texas before Katrina hit. Little is known about the fate of the players' childhood homes.
