Stocks fall as oil gains by nearly $2 (Reuters)

Reuters - U.S. stocks ended lower on Wednesday after a nearly $2 a barrel surge in the price of oil raised concerns that higher energy costs would eat into consumer budgets and corporate profits, hurting retailers and industrial shares such as Caterpillar Inc.
